1600 Cal (16x 100)

Dough:

3/4 cup water
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 1/2 cups flour
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 1/4 tsp. yeast
1 egg

  • Add water and oil to small bowl and heat to 120-130F (50 sec. in microwave).
  • Mix sugar and salt with half of flour. Add water/oil mixture.
  • Beat with electric mixer on low speed 1 min., the medium 1 min.
  • Add egg and mix until smooth. Stir in remaining flour.
  • Turn out on floured board and knead 5 min. Place in greased bowl and turn over. Cover and let rise 1-2 hours until doubled.

Bread:

1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 Tbsp. water
1 egg yolk

  • Punch down and divide dough into three parts, roll into ropes and braid on greased cooking sheet.
  • Brush with vegetable oil, cover, and let rise in warm place for 20-30 minutes, until double.
  • Mix water and yolk and brush on challah. Bake at 375F for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.

Machine Dough, Oven Bake

  • Add oil and water to bread machine, followed by remaining dough ingredients.
  • Process in bread machine on dough setting.
  • Follow braiding and baking instructions above.

Bread Machine (1450 Cal):

  • Add oil and water to bread machine, followed by remaining dough ingredients.
  • Process in bread machine with 1.5 lb., light crust setting (2 hrs. 40 min.).
