13 Bean Chili

1¼ cups 13 Bean Soup Mix
6 cups water
1 lbs. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
15 oz. tomato sauce
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. chili powder (or 1 Poblano, finely chopped for slightly spicier)
½ tsp. cumin
1 tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
- Cover beans with water in a large pot and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and soak for 1 hour.
- Rinse beans in colander and return to pot. Add 6 cups water, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.
- Brown ground beef, onion, and garlic. Add to beans with remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour.
