4-6 apples
juice from 1/2 lemon

  • peel, core, and thinly slice apples
  • toss with lemon juice

3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup suguar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmet
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

  • combine in food processor bowl and pulse to blend

1/2 cup cold butter

  • cube butter and add to flour mixture, and blend until well mixed and crumbly
  • grease a 9” square pan and add the apples and flour mixture in alternating layers
  • bake at 350°F for 55 minutes, until top is browned and apples are tender
  • rest 10 minutes before serving

2/4/25: i made this last week and it was good, but i took it out at the minimum time (45 min) and it was soupy and some of the apples were still a little crunchy. i’m removing the lower time, because i think it would have been perfect with 10 more minutes in the oven.
